Transcript placeholder text refers to sample text used to indicate where real text should go, whether it's in design software like Adobe InDesign (using "Lorem ipsum" or descriptive text) or web forms (like "<label>Email</label>" fields). In design applications, it's often called "filler text" or "dummy text," and it shows how the final layout will look before the actual content is inserted. In forms, it provides a hint for the user about the expected input, like "Enter your email".
In Design Software (like InDesign)
What it is: "Lorem ipsum" is a classic dummy text used to fill space and show the layout. How it works: You can click a button or use a command to add placeholder text, which you can then replace with your real content later. Purpose: It helps designers visualize the final product before all the actual text is available.
In Web Forms (HTML)
What it is: The placeholder
attribute is used in HTML for input fields like text, email, and password. How it works: You write short, hint-based text within the placeholder
attribute (e.g., placeholder="Your Email"
). This text appears in the input box before a user types anything and disappears as soon as they start typing. Purpose: It tells the user what kind of information is expected in the field.
